Hey everybody! Here I am for the first time writing in English. Why? Because I made a lot of friends here in USA that doesn’t know Portuguese, so I thought it’s was good idea to write in English sometimes because they can read. :) For my first post in English, I’ll talk about some of my experience in these more than three months here in USA.
I left my hometown in June 15th and went to São Paulo where all the Brazilians that win the scholarship and did the pre academic went to had a pre arrive, everybody receive some tips to the travel and life in USA. On the June 16th we take the flight and we arrived in Dallas, TX in June 17th and then we take another flight straight to Cedar Rapids, IA. My American life begins.
The Pre Academic in Kirkwood (Cedar Rapids, IA) was awesome. I made friends from all around the world (Indonesia, Nicaragua, Turkey, South Africa, Costa Rica and more). We did a lot of good trips (Iowa City, Amana Colonies, Kalona, Dubuque, Monticello, Adventureland) and had a lot of fun, we had so great times there and off course we studied a lot of English hahaha. The Pre Academic last about 1 month and a half. In the last day we did a farewell picnic to receive our diplomas and everybody got together for the last time. I miss everybody and I hope to see most of them again.
After the Pre Academic some of the Students move to St. Louis, some of them stay in Cedar Rapids and I moved to Muscatine that is the city that I’ll stay for the whole year. Here I did in little more than one month a lot of friends. Muscatine is a very small city, but is good to live and it’s not boring I thought is going to be, that’s good. :)
Here in Muscatine I live with another Brazilian (André) that studies the same thing that I study (Information Technology). My academic program is going good, the College here is very different from my College in Brazil, lots of homework and reading, I’m trying to adapt yet.
I had the opportunity to travel to Chicago, IL and spend a weekend there. All I have to say is that Chicago ROOCKS! haha I also went to Creed concert in Chicago too, was awesome.
This American is being wonderful to me even that I miss a lot Brazil. I hope to improve my English as much as I can, do more friends, meet new places, learn more about IT and return to Brazil another person. I know that this scholarship is a unique experience.
Keep in touch!
